I haven’t bought this as a case but am a verified buyer of every wine in it. I’ve reviewed most of them and you can see what I think of each individual bottle on those pages, and the views of other happy customers. This is a very, very fair price for a really good variety of reds from across Portugal.

This page gives me a chance to say what I think of the reds (and whites) on this site in general though; the ones in this case and the others that I have enjoyed. I’ve been a wine drinker for many years and have never been shy of shelling out a few quid for a decent bottle. My previous preference would have been to buy old world wines (plus a few new world for varieties like Viognier and Sauvignon). I generally bought from Waitrose, the top end of other supermarket wine offerings or from wine merchants. A lot of white Burgundy and red Bordeaux. Barolo, Rioja/Tempranillo. Chilean and Australian whites. Always happy to spend between £10 – £25 a bottle. A fiver or tenner more for something special or an occasion. Since Simon and Antony have started selling Portuguese wine, I like to think I’ve been a critical friend. I haven’t loved every wine I’ve tried of theirs and I’ve had most of them. But I’ve been so impressed by so many of the bottles. A lot of these are from small suppliers and we’ll never be able to buy these in supermarkets. And in a way that’s a good thing.

I used to think Portugal was Port, Rose and Douro. My eyes and palate have been opened.

The greatest compliment I can pay to this site is that every single bottle I’ve had (and I’ve had a lot), whether it’s been to my taste or not, has been exceptional value. From the cheapest to the most expensive, I’ve had wines to compare in price from supermarkets and merchants and I can say without fear of contradiction that every bottle represents as much and more value than you can expect when buying wine in the UK.

For the sake of transparency I can also say here that I have never accepted a freebie from this site. All the wines I’ve had and reviewed I have paid full price for and reviewed as honestly as I can.

In general, the wines on this site are exceptional value and worth a strong 5 stars. Buy this case. Or mix and match one to your taste. Start a wine club with a few friends. Have a few people around and have a tasting. But I hope you support this endeavour and the brilliant producers who make it possible.
